I don't have a  smiley face button on my "compose mail" screen....

That is correct.  Gmail doesn't seem to do smiley faces

I did a search and found out how to do smiley faces on Gmail.

You can add them yourself - go to:

http://www.labnol.org/internet/email/download-yahoo-smileys-images/1600/

and drag them onto your emails.

I know an easier way. You press the print screen button (it should be
next to F12 on the top of your keyboard) Then press "Compose Mail" and
press paste. There should be a smiley icon at the top of your email
where all the colors and fonts are. When you click it, it should show
a number of smileys Just click one and it will add to your email! It
is so cool!

"Smileys" came online this morning.  You need to be in Rich Text mode
in Compose Mail.  There are a lot to choose from.
