I use chrome as my browser and I use keyboard shortcuts for most of
my
gmail usages. If I select a message ('x') and then more options ('.')
and then apply a label the message list loses cursor focus and I have
not found a way using the keyboard to get focus back. I would prefer
not to lose focus at all.
I also just tried this in firefox and the cursor focus problem does
not occur.
thanks
I'm having the same problem. Using anything from the "more actions"
menu steals the cursor focus, forcing me to click somewhere in order
to get access to the keyboard shortcuts again. This is does not
happen in Firefox, so I'm pretty sure the problem is on Chrome's end.

An extraordinarily crude method of regaining cursor focus without
clicking is as follows.
After losing cursor focus, press shift+tab twice. That will move the
focus to the link for "Google Home" at the bottom, allowing you the
use of your keyboard shortcuts. Unfortunately, you won't be able to
open a conversation, because pressing [enter] will open the link
instead. The way to get around this is to press [?], to open the
keyboard shortcut reference. After exiting that screen by pressing
any key, the cursor focus will now be where it needs to be.
So altogether, it's: [shift]+[tab], [shift]+[tab], [?], [enter]
Very clumsy, but it prevents you from having to use the mouse, which
will tide me over until the folks at google fix this issue.

This is still a problem, even in the latest release of Chrome. I'm
surprised the people at Google haven't noticed this yet - I'm sure
they use shortcuts fairly often.

I usually label conversations by
. + "first letter of desired label"+ Enter
in FF and IE, I could repeat this with the same conversation without
touching the mouse
but in Google Chrome, I have to left-click on the area of the message
body, before being able to use the . + "first letter of desired
label"+ Enter sequence again
