New page-- suggested by mapperz.
Please populate with information that'd be useful for those trying to
get their databases to interact with GMaps. Also, create logical
sections if possible.
Thanks!

Subject: Discussion on using-databases-with-gmaps-apps
OK - someone has to start.

I am using MySQL as a backend to my application and have implemented
what I think is a neat solution to the "too many markers" problem -
MarkerManager requires you to define the different levels of the group
hierarchy (not easy when you allow users to add markers) and the
Clusterer seems to be very arbitrary. On my site
http://birdingsites.com.au/Test_WhereToBird.php I split the map area
into a number of cells in the database processing. Then I allocate
markers to cells - if there is only one marker in a cell I send that
to the browser - if more than one then I send a different marker which
the user can click on.
Still needs more work but it's a start and I would welcome comments -
you will not be able to add markers yourself unless you register and
at the moment the free hosting service I use is having email problems
which means that registration may not work (as I email your password
to you)

What a good suggestion from mapperz. :-)

We are so many in this forum who have difficulties understanding and
getting Google Maps API to work with for instance PHP MySQL. Looking
forward to see a lot of sites/tutrials/help for us beginners. Thanks
in advance.

/Tine

If there are errors/broken links please report them to Pamela or
Mapperz as have editing permission.

Added link to a tutorial on how to retrieve overlay data from an SQL
Server using the Google Maps .NET control. With slight alteration the
tutorial can be used for any database (Access, MySql, Oracle etc.)
from a .NET environment.

We've got a formar Oracle guy on the team, and I've got some mySQL
scripts, so I'll make it a priority to get more DB interaction
examples out there. Thanks for adding your examples.
By the way, all members have editing priveleges. There's no option to
allow only certain members. I trust you all :)
(That's why we've got revision history!)
