Just thought to share with you all. Two and half months ago, my bike was picked up by towing people as it was parked in front of Mahaveer Jain College (supposed to be only car parking area). But I saw many bikes parked, so I too parked. There was no significant sign board too. I had to go to chamrajpet central police station to get my bike. I was asked Rs.300 as fine, but that guy was from towing group. I was not sure about the fine, so asked him about the receipt. He refused, and told if I want receipt I'll have to wait 4-5hrs. I was in a hurry and really pissed. I couldn't get in touch with any traffic police as it was lunch time. Finally he released my bike after taking Rs.250.
I had dropped an complain regarding this through http://www.bangaloretrafficpolice.gov.in website as I was still unaware of the fine. (fine was actually Rs.300) Now the website is really informative and you can also pay your fine online through it. There was no response for 2 weeks, and then I never really expected any response. Few days ago, I received a response stating that they have taken this under consideration and had requested to come to the station and give the statement as they take this as urgent. Yesterday I went there, and they investigated. Even those towing guys where also called in front of me to recognise them who took fine illegally. That guy was not there. Then the inspector blasted those guys and also called up add. commissioner and told him that they should again warn all towing guys not to repeat this. Traffic Police actually outsource this service.
Surprisingly my Rs.250 was also reimbursed to me. Not to forget I was offered tea/coffee as well :) The inspector insisted me to make such complains as very few people actually care to do about it. As I saw the stats there, last year at chamrajpet police station only they have collected 2 crore 20 lakh money as fine! I believe Bangalore Traffic Police have really raised their standards and lot of effort is being given.
Please go through the website for traffic fine/rules details. So always take receipt and stop corruption!
Thanks for sharing this info...but just one question...can I assume that the
"bike" being referred to here is a "motor-bike" or is it actually a cycle? I
hope the towing guys don't take away our cycles if its found in the wrong
place and just keep it somewhere aside...

Felt really glad on reading your story.. Just the other day I was
really pissed to see mindless construction going on at Sadashivanagar:
The plan is to remove the granite stones from perfectly good looking
foot paths and replace it with tiles and cement. Worse.. the end
result looks poor and also moss forms on the cement (due to rain)
making it unsafe for pedestrians. There are good and bad things
everywhere..sigh..

Not to forget the decline in water table due to such concrete pavements and weakening of tree roots.
