Subject: Today's Forum Incident
Hey all!

I went to forum today by cycle and the security didn't allow me. So
then i reminded him about what happened on saturday. He then spoke to
the 'manager'(not sure if it was the manager) on the walkie-talkie and
he didn't allow me. He told me to go and park in the sunshine parking
lot.
I went and parked it there and then went inside to the office(of
Forum) and spoke to someone there for sometime discussing about
allowing parking for cycles and he gave some reasons. When I countered
all his reasons logically, he finally resorted to saying that the
management is discussing about this issue and has not yet decided on
it, so until then cyclists would not be allowed parking in Forum.

I think we still need to do something about this. How about a press
conference or something? So that we would not be discriminated against
by anyone/place in the future and also help promote cycling.

- Siddharth

OOPS!!!!.. Sad to hear that Sid..

I think the Forum guys need to be reminded yet again abt the presence of
Supporters of Critical Mass :-) and Environmental Activists... I think we
should again conduct a bigger gathering at Forum with the presence of Media
from the beginning and show their discrimination towards Environmental
Lovers!!!!..

I paid 15rs for Sunday Evening's Parking.. Did you have to pay any parking
fee too?. Coz if you have paid the same fee as that charged for a MotorBike,
I feel we need to ask them the Logical reasoning for the same parking charge
but still discrimination for parking space!!!..

Guys and Girls, Lets participate in another demonstration coming Saturday or
Sunday evening.. What's your Opinion???

Regards

Dipankar

I agree.. however, on Saturday there is a session happening in IISC and so
some might go for that.. May be, Sunday around 5:30 PM might work well.. The
timing also has to be peak hour for them so that we make the best impact..
Imagine.. some 100 odd cyclists waiting in the main road to enter Forum at
their peak time :))

Hi Rao,

weekend and fight for the right of equality.. What do you say Guys?.

its not a fight ..  with a fight you will just raise emotions and waste
time.

There is no point talking to anyone at the ground on this - watchmen,
security, shop owners. They just will not be able to take a decision on
this. Plus they keep changing. The person who agrees to let you in today
will not be there tomorrow.

Best would be to pull contacts, figure out which groups (person) owns forum
(like this Ali chappie) and explain the issue and get their approval for
this. Maybe even invite him for more such events and get him to get on a
bicycle.
Simpler - less headache.

media etc just sensationalize things and dont really get us what we want
most of the time.

I agree to what Rohan says.
When I read all these mails it sounds more emotional than anything else. As
a matter of fact Sunshine Parking lot was allowed to be used as mentioned
earlier. Why do we term it as we got to fight these guys. Cant anything be
achieved in peaceful manner?

All those who have been outside India, US/Europe and other continents are
cycles allowed to be parked inside shopping complexes? What is the scenario
there?

Back in 2004/2005 I remember nowhere was cycles allowed to be parked. Barton
Center refused. I parked it behind the building along with other cycles. You
find alternatives.

We fight for entry into forum. Now did we also think of other aspects.
Example traffic violations??
I have seen many cyclists do these in Bangalore (roadies, terrain, others)
in my past so many years of riding.
1. At a traffic jam we get onto pavement and ride cycles.
2. We ride on wrong side of the road.
3. We push the cycle at traffic signals to avoid standing at red signal.

Imagine the trouble for other users of the road. We do complain against
motorbike riders when they do the same.

Tomorrow if traffic department decides that to keep track of such nuisance
creators cyclists also need to register their cycles. Proper licenses for
riding cycles.
