Hi all,
I have no idea what's going on here? No one seems to be responding in
a concrete way...
I too got an invite from TFN. Actually was surprised to get it as
there were so many people
queuing for it considering that I registered pretty late.
I am very much interested in going for this December trip (be it TFN
or Blue Hills Trail). But I
would feel very bad if I drop out from TFN & then 'Blue Mountain
trail' goes cold due to insufficient
people participation.
So people please speak up. Who are coming & who are not. This would
help others to make a decision.

That's true Srikar. I agree with you completely.... People are responding
really slow. :( :(
One thing that I can guarantee you is that I am going separately whether a
team materialises or not.... I am buying a wildcraft bag, tent and sleeping
bag in couple of weeks. I have been expecting a good number of people
dropping off by December citing various reasons of their own.
I am in even if everyone else drops out... and thats my final decision...
As far as TFN is concerned, I can gurantee all that you will be getting a
call from TFN if you are still waiting in a queue or have not registered
yet... :). So go ahead and register guys... !!! You will surely enjoy with
TFN if you are ready to pitch in 18,000 rs in form of Donation.....
Call me up in case you need any clarification on the Nilgiris and Blue
mountain ride...

Murthy is riding with us and is providing his Santro as a support vehicle!!
:).. Thanks a lot Murthy.!!!
There is an open offer to all guys. Murthy would like to have someone
volenteer for driving during the ride. The person need not pay any amount
for travel and stay. May be he has to bear up with the food expences. Any
one for a free enjoyment of the whole Trip????.. Let your friends know abt
the same....
The confirmed Participants are as listed below
1. Murthy (Providing his Santro.)
2. Srikar
3. Manish Rajput
4. Sashi Krishnan
5. Dipankar Paul
6. Rakesh Kumar D
7. Shashijeevan M.P.
We have good small group to start with and hope so that we can enjoy the
ride.
The current plan is as given below.
18th Dec - By bus to Hassan (Night journey on 18th, Friday, so that the ride
can directly start with mountain rides after a warmup ride..)
19th Dec - Hassan - Madikeri 111.22 km
20th Dec - Madkeri - Irupu 79.77 km
21st Dec - Irupu - Sultanbathery 69.56 km
22nd Dec - Sultanbathery - Ooty 90.60 km
23rd Dec - Ooty and Surrounding places 70 kms
24th Dec - Ooty and Surrounding places 60 kms
25th Dec - Ooty - Mysore 124.58 km (Mysore to Bangalore by bus)
26th Dec - Morning reach back to bangalore.
We are keeping one day in buffer in case the team decides for some
diversions or bad weather strikes in, or any other uncontrollable
circumstances.
It is anyway guaranteed that we will be back by 27th positively to
Bangalore.
Total distance 650+ kms.. + distance covered by Bus..
*Financials*
We are expecting everyone to pitch in about 5000/-. Though the current
calculations show that the final figures may be much lesser than that.
So.. Cheer up guys!!!!. The ride is on!!! I wish that everyone starts
practicing well so that they can improve their stamina for the ride.... :)
:) :)
Best Wishes

Sorry for a long delay in my response. Was held up by heavy work-load during
the last week. :(
The confirmed Participants are as listed below
1. Murthy (Providing his Santro.)
2. Manish Rajput
3. Sashi Krishnan
4. Dipankar Paul
5. Rakesh Kumar D
6. Shashijeevan M.P.
7. Naveen P
8. Vivek S
9. Sailesh Vunnam
Part of the route riders (will join in for a 2-3 days): -
1. Mansoor Ishaq
2. Vinay.S
Any way, if everything goes well, We are about to get the *1st Female
participant *for the ride!!!!. Let's welcome Sowjanya Shetty, to the
group!!!.... I just hope that she doesn't change her plans by the end.. ;)
Shubratha, true to say that you were the first girl to reply!!. I just hope
that we can have you on the tour with us. Let me know if the dates work out
for you anytime. Moreover with Sowjanya expected to join us, you will surely
get a lady companion for the ride!!.. It would be nice if you could provide
us with some input regarding tenting and accommodation.. As of now, we can
go ahead with keeping into consideration of about 12 -15 members in the
final ride plan which may include some ladies/girls too.. We may need to
start finalising the accomodation part now or else it may get late!! If you
have any queries, let me know..
Regarding the bike, as you mentioned that you don't have one, I suppose
bikes will be available at quite affordable rates for rent...
FYI, I as well as many other participants have already applied and got the
leaves approved!! So there is no chance of cancellation of the ride as well
as no change in dates, even in near future.. :). I hope this will end any
kind of confusion/doubt in the minds of people regarding whether the ride
will ever materialise!!!.
Regarding reaching Hassan, as many have put forward their doubts, we can
load our bikes in any of the state transport buses (Rajhamsa, Airavata, or
private bus operators) and the charge for it is can range from 30 to 50 rs.
The luggage and the bikes will be taken care of nicely.. This has been
confirmed by one of the participants (Sorry I missed his name), that he
regularly transports his bike on the buses for long distances!!!....
Sailesh Vunnam has proposed that his friend is ready to volunteer to drive
the car. I was speaking to one someone who proposed that his photographer
friends are ready to volunteer for driving the car since, they will also get
ample amount of time to do nature Photography!!.. So, If there is any good /
professional photographer willing to volunteer, please confirm at the
earliest, else the option will be given to Sailesh's friend :)...
23rd Dec - Ooty and Surrounding places 70 kms (*Ooty->coonor->Mettupalyam(End
of blue mountain)->kotagiri->ooty*)
24th Dec - Ooty and Surrounding places 60 kms (*Ooty->Silent Valley National
Park->ooty*)
Though the current
calculations show that the final figures may be much lesser than that!!!!
So.. Cheer up guys!!!!. The ride is on!!! I wish that everyone starts
practicing well so that they can improve their stamina for the ride.... :)
:) :)

Sunday.... Hope that you can also join up on sunday with your wife.. :)
During Nilgiris Ride, Sowjanya's Husband will be driving their car and her

as far as i know there is only a trek route from ooty to silent valley and
there is lots of restrictions entering the sanctury. other route is longer
one (mettupalayam-coimbatore-mannarkad-mukkali). if anyone went here in the
past can confirm. also confirm where the tents can be pitched in ooty and
other places (ooty is screwed up by commercial and private establishments
that there is no inch of free space there :-) ).it could be a good idea if
the stay can be somewhat donhill to ooty (connor or lovedale or aruvikarai -
they are more beautiful and less crowded). anyone familiar with thios places
can help.
thanks

Gandhi in dhoti clad always travelled in a cycle and he always gave lift to
ladies when they asked him for a lift... that is what I heard....But Ghandhi
used a ladies cycle..wondering how he was able to make the ladies sit in the
front.

Sorry to say that I was too much tied up with work and hence could not
follow up with the thread for more than a week.. Now its high time to
finalise the participants for the trip.
Here is the tentative list of participants who have stick on till now for
the ride.
Based on majority demand of participants to finalise the list and move on
towards the organisation of the ride, I request all members to contribute a
minimum of Rs 5000/- towards the tour. This will help us in accomodation and
vehicle booking.
Expences expected for the tour are as given below.
1. One Tempo Traveler to carry all luggage/tents (Depending on the final
team strength) - 25000
(I called up one renting agency and they told that 250 km at 9 rs/km is
minimum distance and rate we must pay per day)
2. One Support Car - 10000
3. a. If all days in hotel, (if abt 12 members are coming) - 20000
b. if all days in camps (if abt 12 members are coming, considering 300
rs rent per 4 men tent) - 12000
4. Some minimum emergency repair kits, First Aids, electrolytes and glucose
etc 5000 - 10000..
Please note that every participant is requested to carry an extra amount
upto rs 2000 or more during the trip to take care of daily food and other
expenses.
Hence as we can see, the total expences can come anywhere between 40,000 for
8 members to 70,000 for 20 members, averaging 4000 to 5000 per head.
Requesting all to transfer the necessary funds at the earliest to
Name :- Dipankar Paul
Bank Name:- ICICI Bank
Branch :- Maleshwaram
Acc No:- 007801528133
Amount:- 5000/-
In case of any doubt, feel free to call me up anytime.
I also need the participants to volunteer for some of the below mentioned
activities
1. Gathering Hotel Reservation Info.
2. Gathering Info abt Tent Renting Sources.
3. Gathering Info abt Tempo Traveler Rental
4. Listing Info abt all possible Emergency nos and hospitals avalilable en
route.
5. Organising individual and/or Group practice and training for the trip
like riding for Nandi Hills etc..
6. Providing any kind of valuable input regarding anything that seems to be
relevant for the ride.
Please feel free to correct me regarding any point and do add up anything
that I might have missed out.
23rd Dec - Ooty and Surrounding places 70 kms (Ooty->coonor->Mettupalyam(End
of blue mountain)->kotagiri->ooty)
24th Dec - Ooty and Surrounding places 60 kms (Ooty->Silent Valley National
Park->ooty)

After 8 days of riding, 600 or 650 kms is not going to make any difference.
The buffer is kept coz I am personally planning to do Mysore to Bangalore by
bike on the last day after reaching Mysore.:) This may end up adding 130 km+
to the trip.. Others can join up with me too or else bus / tempo traveler is
planned to pick and drop from Mysore to Bangalore. :)
Secondly, I called up one renting agency regarding tempo traveller and they
told that 250 km at 9 rs/km + 250rs as Bata is minimum distance and rate we
must pay per day. The whole trip starting from Bangalore and ending at
Bangalore is abt 900+kms. If anyone can let me know abt a cheaper source of
tempo traveller, feel free to contribute.. :)
Do let us know the info that you get from Wildcraft..
