My domain www.justanotedesigns.com continues to go to the register.com
"coming soon" page instead of redirecting to my blog page. I changed
the cname (5 days ago) in register.com and changed my advanced
settings to publishing to a custom domain. Did I miss a step?

Hi Stacy,
Your DNS setup is where you have to start. This is what you have:
justanotedesigns.com. 14400 IN A 216.21.239.197
www.justanotedesigns.com. 14400 IN CNAME ghs.google.com.
This is what you need:
justanotedesigns.com. 3600 IN A 64.233.179.121
justanotedesigns.com. 3600 IN A 66.249.81.121
justanotedesigns.com. 3600 IN A 72.14.207.121
www.justanotedesigns.com. 14400 IN CNAME ghs.google.com.
I appreciate your help with this...unfortunately I need to be baby-
stepped through this process somewhat - sorry! I logged on to
register.com and found where I can edit my IP address records. On
this page there are 4 columns: the first has a box for me to enter
something, next is ".justanotedesigns.com", next is "points to",
followed by the box with the ip address. There are 4 rows of each of
these - the very first box on the first row has an asterisk, but the
others are all empty. Do I just neet to type the "3600 IN A" in the
first set of boxes and the IP addresses you gave me in the second set?
Thanks in advance for your help...I'm sorry to be such a pain!

Stacy,
That's OK, I'll learn with you.
Before making ANY changes, can you describe for me exactly what you
see right now that shows the information:
216.21.239.197
www, ghs.google.com
which corresponds to your current setup:
justanotedesigns.com. 14400 IN A 216.21.239.197
www.justanotedesigns.com. 14400 IN CNAME ghs.google.com.
For the IP address first there is a defined field to enter something -
it already has an asterisk in it, next it reads
".justanotedesigns.com", next it says "points to", and last is the
field with the ip address in it. There are 5 rows just like this, but
only the first field in the first row already had an asterisk in it.
For the CNAME there is a field where I entered "www", next is
".justanotedesigns.com" next is "points to", and last is the field
where I entered "ghs.google.com".

I contacted tech support for register.com and all he told me was that
the last two ip addresses 66.249.81.121 and 72.14.207.121 were in
conflict and I needed to contact my webhost to find out what I needed
for my A records. I don't know if that helps or not.

OK, that being the case, I think, just correct this:
justanotedesigns.com. 14400 IN A 216.21.239.197
Replace "216.21.239.197" with "64.233.179.121", change "14400" to
"3600", and add 2 similar entries for "66.249.81.121" and
"72.14.207.121". Giving you this:
justanotedesigns.com. 3600 IN A 64.233.179.121
justanotedesigns.com. 3600 IN A 66.249.81.121
justanotedesigns.com. 3600 IN A 72.14.207.121
Change "14400" to "3600", on the "CNAME" entry:
www.justanotedesigns.com. 3600 IN CNAME ghs.google.com.
Am I wearing you out yet?!? I tried changing them, and register.com
is telling me I can only have my domain name point to one address. Is
this where the aliases come in? Do I need to add some? I'm getting
so confused...I'm sorry to be so difficult.

No, Stacy, you aren't wearing me out.
Hmmm - Register.Com. It seems to me like that is familiar, but I just
finished a search, and I can't find anything mentioning this
limitation. Do yourself a favour - ask them to escalate to the next
level of support, get an email address, and email them the URL of my
article.
http://blogging.nitecruzr.net/2008/06/custom-domain-publishing-and-go...
Tell them that you need help setting up your DNS per Google standards,
and ask for help specifically so you don't have to transfer your
domain to GoDaddy. Because if Register.Com can't provide you 3 "A"
referrals, that's what you'll have to do.
justanotedesigns.com. 3600 IN A 64.233.179.121
justanotedesigns.com. 3600 IN A 66.249.81.121
justanotedesigns.com. 3600 IN A 72.14.207.121
Ok...here's my last ditch effort to try and make this work. You have
no idea how much I appreciate your patience through all of this. I
already had the CNAME set up as:
> > Am I wearing you out yet?!? I tried changing them, and register.com

Stacy,
You have to enter the 3 IP addresses for the root, NOT for "www", and
NOT for any other alias.
justanotedesigns.com. 3600 IN A 64.233.179.121
justanotedesigns.com. 3600 IN A 66.249.81.121
justanotedesigns.com. 3600 IN A 72.14.207.121
The domain is "justanotedesigns.com", and the 3 entries apply to the
root of the domain. No aliases.
