Subject: On to Singapore

Today, we went to two places, Labrador Park and Reflections at Bukit Chandu.
We went to Labrador Park first. The first thing we saw was a old tunnel that
you would need to pay a sum to enter then there will be tour guides
explaining the things underground, in the tunnel. Our teacher Mr Ong did not
allow us to go in as it would collide with our tight time schedule. Then we
moved on and came to a place where it was the battle station. During the War
World II there once stood magnificent guns with rounds of ammunition ready
to fight with the forces that came from the sea. But the guns were not fully
utilised. They could not be turned a 180 degrees as there are walls behind.
What are the walls for? They are for protecting the soldiers from the
artillery itself. The walls hinder the movement of the cannon so the cannon
cannot be turned the other way round. Altogether, there are 5 guns but only
one has remained.
We took turns going up the artillery and admired it then later, Mr Ong told
us to go up the cannon for a picture. After that my classmate challenged me
to carry one of the heavy artillery shells but it was too heavy so I could
not carry it and I think that it is secured to the ground. There are some
places along the wall that have recesses that help to store the ammunition.

Later, we came to the Reflections of Bukit Chandu. We went in and watched a
video on the defeat of Bukit Chandu. Lt Bin Saidi’s motto was: DEATH BEFORE
DISHONOUR. This phrase deeply moved me by the pride and selflessness of a
soldier, so willing to lay down his life for the goodness of the others. So
I have learnt quite a lot.

In conclusion, this trip is memorable
