We went to Changi Museum today.
One achievement today was that no one was late. This was lucky as we were
going to the eastern side of Singapore. We had a chartered bus for us.
I was rather surprised at the fact that two other schools were there.
Apparently the government's efforts at National Education were rather
successful.
In the morning we watched a television series, "Hey! Singapore" Two cons
were that it was dubbed in Mandarin and the quality was poor. Nevertheless,
it was full of information.
The tour of Changi Museum was conducted in a rather humorous manner. Still,
it was full of information. Even though I did not pay much attention
initially because my research topic had nothing to do with this, the tour
guide managed to catch my attention and make me involved in his tour. Even
though many of my classmates mocked the fat man, I inferred that Changi
Museum was not a very widely publicized which made him not need to get up
and exercise often.
Even though the tour was short, it was enlightening. The museum itself was
too. It was small yet rich in information. Before the trip, I had not even
been aware of the existence of a chapel in Changi Museum, or the murals. I
definitely learnt a lot of new things.
Even though we usually cannot learn from the past as the situation is never
the same as in the past, I feel that there are some basic concepts that
never change. One example related to World War Two would be the concept of
defending your nation. This links to ownership and responsibility, two core
values that also remain unchanged throughout time.
